We Need Foster Homes!

We typically have about 80 dogs in our care at any given time. We also typically have up to 15 dogs waiting to get into foster homes.

POMDR provides supplies such as crate, bed, collar, harness, leash, id tag, bowls, toys, flea prevention. We also cover all medical expenses. We ask that our foster homes provide the food and a loving, safe home until your foster dog is adopted.

Fostering is a wonderful way to help dogs left behind find their forever homes. You may also want to foster as a way of finding the perfect match for your home if you are looking to add a dog to your family. Click here for more information about volunteering and fostering and to fill out an online volunteer questionnaire.

Some dogs in our program are very popular, and multiple foster volunteers may be interested in fostering the same one. If the dog you are interested in is no longer available, please be patient, many others still need a foster home. Please note that some dogs may have medical or behavioral needs, which will be disclosed (if known) when you inquire about them. Thank you for your patience.

The following dogs need foster homes:

Koa
Looks like: German Shepherd mix
Male, 12 years old (estimated), 40 pounds
Meet your very own "pocket shepherd"! This adorably tiny German Shepherd mix is proof that big personality can come in a small, perfectly portable package. He's got all the classic shepherd charm- loyal, smart, and eager to please, just in a more compact, easy-to-handle size. This sweet boy is as friendly as they come. He absolutely loves people and will happily soak up attention, pets, and praise whenever you're willing to give it.

Koa is also stellar with other dogs, making him a fantastic companion for a home with existing pups or for someone who enjoys dog park outings and social adventures. With his gentle nature and happy spirit, he's the kind of dog who fits in just about anywhere, whether it's cozy nights on the couch or tagging along for daily walks and outings. He's got that perfect balance of playful energy and affectionate calm. If you've been dreaming of a shepherd but not up for their size and strength these days, look no further! This pint-sized guy might just be your perfect match.

Gentle Koa joins us from Hitchcock Road Animal Services after he was found as a stray.

Koa is looking for a loving foster landing spot in order to join our program. Can he stay with you?

Spam
Looks like: Chihuahua
Male, 8 years old (estimated), 7 pounds
Just like the iconic island treat, he's a favorite and just as lovable. This pint-sized guy is a total cutie with a big personality packed into a small, easy-to-love package. Spam is dog social -- he loves hanging with other pups. He's ready to be your shadow, your snuggle buddy, your #1 fan!

He's the kind of dog who fits in anywhere. Whether you're out adventuring or just lounging at home, Spam is happy as long as he's with you. Looking for a little slice of aloha to brighten your days?

Sweetie Spam joined us from Bradshaw Sacramento County Animal Services after he came in as a stray.

Katara
Looks like: Rat Terrier, Chihuahua mix
Female, 11 years old (estimated), 14 pounds
Katara may not be a waterbender, but she will completely melt your heart! This petite sweetheart has the kind of soulful eyes and joyful tail wags that make every bit of patience worth it. While her past is a bit of a mystery, we do know she's been bravely learning to trust -- and once you're in her circle, you're in. Katara forms deep, loyal bonds and absolutely lives for cuddles with her person. She's a thoughtful, sensitive girl who prefers a calmer home where she can truly relax and shine. Katara does wonderfully with other dogs and enjoys their company, though she appreciates having her own space at mealtime. She's currently building confidence with sharing her favorite humans and cozy spots, and she's already making great progress with the right guidance.

Katara would do best in an adult home where her gentle nature can be respected. She does have a chronic UTI that can occasionally cause some urinary leakage, but she's being well-managed and cared for, and her adopters will be set up with everything they need to keep her comfortable and thriving. And here's where she really shines: Katara is an absolute dream on a leash, loves a good car ride, and has the perfect mix of playful energy and snuggly couch companion. She's the kind of dog who will quietly become your whole world and make it so much brighter.

This sweetheart joined us from Hitchcock Road Animal Services after being surrendered to the shelter for being "too old." She's looking for a home where she can live out her golden years in peace.

Katara is looking to land in a loving foster home to land in. Could that be with you? She's currently boarding with us but we'd love to see her off to a loving foster home while she awaits her forever home.

If you are interested in fostering and you are already a POMDR volunteer, email us. If you are interested in fostering and are not a volunteer yet, please fill out a volunteer application. Or, if you're interested in adopting, fill out an adoption questionnaire.

Honeybee
Looks like: French Bulldog
Female, 6 years old (estimated), 20 pounds
Honeybee is a sweet, soulful French Bulldog who's ready to leave her past behind and soak in the love of a forever home. She came to us a bit worse for wear, with some skin issues and signs that she was likely used for breeding, but don't let that fool you, this girl's spirit is as gentle and warm as her name. She truly is the most loving and affectionate pup who deserves so much more than she's been given thus far.

Honeybee is a mellow, easygoing companion who truly just wants a soft place to land. With other dogs, Honeybee can be a little forward at first, just that classic Frenchie confidence, but she does well overall and settles in nicely once introductions are out of the way. Because of her breed and her condition, Honeybee can overheat easily. She's not built for long walks in the summer sun, but she'll thrive in a cool, comfortable home where she can relax and be pampered. Think cozy naps, short strolls in mild weather, and lots of love.

This sweet Bee joined us from Hitchcock Road Animal Services after she was found as a stray. Due to her senior status and need for medical care, they felt she was best suited for a senior rescue.

Honeybee would love to land in a foster home all her own! Can she stay with you? She has her bags packed and is ready to land in a foster or forever home!

If you are interested in fostering and you are already a POMDR volunteer, email us. If you are interested in fostering and are not a volunteer yet, please fill out a volunteer application. Or, if you're interested in adopting, fill out an adoption questionnaire.

Mahalo
Looks like: Chihuahua mix

This little cutie pie is incredibly friendly and loves making new friends, both human and canine. While Mahalo is always looking to say 'aloha' to new friends, sometimes he has a silly way of communicating through grumbles. This communication sends some mixed messages wagging tail and grumble talk. We're excited to find his favorite person who enjoys this silly big personality of his!

He's the kind of pup who fits right in, happy to join playtime with other dogs or soak up attention from his favorite people. With his sweet nature and silly charm, it's impossible not to fall for him. If you're looking for a friendly, social, and downright adorable companion, Mahalo is ready to fill your home with love and happy tail wags!

Mahalo joined POMDR from Hitchcock Road Animal Services in Salinas after being found stray.

Aloha
Looks like: Pit Bull, Chihuahua mix
Female, 10 years old (estimated), 18 pounds
Aloha is all about joy, energy, and good vibes! This playful pup lives for fun and will happily show off her signature zoomies when she's excited. Whether she's romping around the yard or chasing toys, Aloha brings a contagious enthusiasm that will keep you smiling.

She's also a social butterfly! Aloha does great with other dogs and loves meeting new people. Her friendly, easygoing nature makes her a wonderful companion for an active home or a family looking for a dog who can join in on all the fun. After she's burned off some energy, Aloha is more than happy to settle down and enjoy some love and attention. If you're looking for a happy, social pup who will fill your days with laughter and love, Aloha might just be your perfect match.

Aloha joined POMDR from Hitchcock Road Animals Services in Salinas after she was found as a stray.

This sweet girl is looking to leave her shelter days behind her, but because our clinic is full we are needing a foster home willing to take her in before we break her out of the shelter. Could you be her ticket to freedom? If you are interested in fostering and you are already a POMDR volunteer, email us. If you are interested in fostering and are not a volunteer yet, please fill out a volunteer application. Or, if you're interested in adopting, fill out an adoption questionnaire.

Nana
Looks like: Anatolian Shepherd/Great Pyrenees mix
Female, 6 years old (estimated), 87 pounds
Like her namesake from Peter Pan, Nana is the picture of loyalty and love. This sweet senior has a gentle, caretaker's heart. She bonds deeply with her people and will happily be your steady, loving shadow.

Nana would prefer to join an adult home with stability and predictability. She can be a bit confused by new people entering the home. She is hoping for a patient, understanding home that will give her comfort, routine, and reassurance when she needs it. In return, she'll give you unconditional love and a calm, devoted companionship that only a senior dog can offer.

Independent as well as affectionate, Nana is just as content to nap on the porch or lounge in the yard as she is to enjoy a car ride or a slow stroll. She walks beautifully on leash and loves to take in the world at her own pace.

Nana prefers to be the only pet in the home.

Sweet Nana joined us from Hitchcock Road Animal Services after she was found as a stray. Due to her senior status, they felt she would do best in a senior focused rescue to find that perfect forever family to fit her needs.

Nana is searching for a loving landing spot to call her own. She would prefer a woman only household if possible, as her stranger danger does limit the number of men she allows into her circle. Are you interested in giving Nana a safe place to land while she finds her forever home? If so, please reach out today!

If you are interested in fostering and you are already a POMDR volunteer, email us. If you are interested in fostering and are not a volunteer yet, please fill out a volunteer application. Or, if you're interested in adopting, fill out an adoption questionnaire.

Watson
Looks like: Chihuahua mix
Male, 12 years old (estimated), 7 pounds
Lovable little Watson is a tiny senior Chihuahua at his best. He may be getting along in years, but he still has some toddle left in those legs of his. He has a bit of osteoarthritis in his hips, but he doesn't let that slow him down at all. Aside from taking in the sights and smells around him, Watson loves a good sunbathing session. He'd love to lounge around the yard this summer with you!

Watson is lovely with cats and humans but prefers to be the only pup in the home. In his retirement years, he really just wants all of love for himself (and we understand!)!

Watson joined us from the Sacramento Bradshaw shelter where he landed after being found as a stray. They wanted to help him find a forever family ready to meet the needs of a senior dog, so he joined the POMDR family!

Watson is currently in a loving foster home but he is looking for a more ideal home where he can be the only apple of someone's eye. Could that be you? Please reach out if you think Watson would make the perfect foster for you!

Beanie Baby
Looks like: Chihuahua mix
Female, 13 years old (estimated), 10 pounds
With age, this Beanie Baby has definitely increased her treasure status. She is incredibly affectionate, gentle, and loving, and soaks up attention like a pro. Whether snuggled up in your lap, following you from room to room, or giving you her signature adoring look, this girl is all about connection. Her happy place is right by your side. True to her Chihuahua roots, Beans is very loyal and bonds deeply with the people close to her and she needs a little time to warm up to folks outside of that inner circle. If it was up to her, the entire day would involve sitting on laps, cuddling up tight, and being part of all daily activities. Her specialty move is claiming the highest point in the living room (aka the top of the couch). On leashed walks, she has quite the pep in her step and with her foster family she has even completed a 5K walk. She likes to come along on car rides and will calmly sit in your lap. Her interactions with other dogs are mostly friendly indifference.

Beanie Baby would thrive in a calm, predictable household with someone who is home most of the time and enjoys having a constant companion. She does best when she feels secure and connected, and she benefits from consistency, patience, and gentle reassurance as she settles into new environments. Beanie Baby is ready to be your perfect little sidekick! All she wishes for is a family who will shower her with affection and go out on little adventures now and then.

Beanie Baby joined POMDR from Bradshaw Animal Shelter in Sacramento.

Beanie Baby is dreaming of a cozy foster home where she can be your one and only. She struggles with being alone and would thrive in a home where she can spend lots of time with her person, soaking up companionship and affection as the true star of the household. If you have the space in your home and your heart to give this sweet girl the love and attention she deserves, she would be so grateful to land with you.

Mighty Joe
Looks like: Miniature Pinscher
Male, 12 years old (estimated), 20 pounds
Make way, world! Mighty Joe is here and ready to serve up some snuggles and slobbery kisses. This low rider is a happy little guy who greets everyone he meets with a super speed tail wag. Mighty Joe is here to make lasting friendships and gets along well with other pups, but needs to go to a home where the general vibe is slow. This sweet guy was diagnosed with heart worm and needs to keep his heart rate low while he recovers.

This darling boy joined us from the Bradshaw Animal Shelter when they reached out seeking placement with a senior focused rescue that could help with his medical needs.

Mighty Joe is looking for a foster that will be able to keep him mellow while he completes his heart worm testing. If you have a mighty heart and would like to welcome Mighty Joe, please reach out!

If you are interested in fostering and you are already a POMDR volunteer, email us. If you are interested in fostering and are not a volunteer yet, please fill out a volunteer application. Or, if you're interested in adopting, fill out an adoption questionnaire.

Malcolm - 4/22-4/28 only
Looks like: Husky
Male, 8 years old (estimated), 50 pounds
Malcolm (or Mac as his friends call him) is a stunning Husky boy with soulful eyes and a sensitive, thoughtful nature. He's 'not your average Husky'! This darling boy doesn't seem to know his size or breed description as he is a total lap dog and as quiet as they come! He thrives in calm, predictable environments and is described by those who know him as a 'love sponge'! He's ready to soak in all of the love you have to give him!

Malcolm is looking for a dog savvy home without other large breeds around. He does best with smaller dogs or would shine as the only dog in the home. He's a smart boy, loves treats, and is eager to please which makes this boy the perfect candidate for some future training with his next family. Malcolm would prefer a home without kitties as he does like to chase them.

Mac joined the POMDR pack from a local shelter after he was removed from concerning conditions in the home.

Malcolm is a sweet boy in need of a cozy temp foster home! He would do best in a home that can provide routine. An experienced large dog temp foster preferred. If you can help Malcolm land in a safe, loving temp foster home, please reach out!

Tarzan and Jane - 5/4-5/11 only
Looks like: Poodle mix
Male, 10 years old (estimated), 12 pounds
Looks like: Poodle mix
Female, 9 years old (estimated), 12 pounds
Tarzan and Jane are a bonded pair who just couldn't possibly get any sweeter. Tarzan is a sweet, gentle boy with a tender heart. Jane, his devoted partner, is also incredibly loving but has very limited vision. And this is where their story truly shines: Tarzan is Jane's rock and her guide. He helps her navigate the world, offering comfort, confidence, and quiet reassurance wherever they go. Where she hesitates, he leads. Where she's unsure, he stands close.

Together, Tarzan and Jane face long odds through no fault of their own. They don't need much, just a safe, quiet home, soft beds, and someone willing to open their heart to two dogs who have already proven how deeply they can love. If you've ever thought about doing something truly meaningful, please consider opening your heart to this sweet pair.

Tarzan and Jane joined us from Hitchcock Road Animal Services. They were picked up as strays. Due to their senior status and Jane's vision impairments, they felt they would do best in the hands of a senior rescue.

Tarzan and Jane are in a loving foster home and are just looking for a temporary spot while they are out of town. Can they stay with you? Please reach out to us today if so!

Leaf - 5/1-5/11 only
Looks like: Chihuahua mix
Female, 7 years old (estimated), 17 pounds
This sweet autumn spirit is a bright ray of sunshine on even the gloomiest days of fall. Leaf is a happy-go-lucky girl who loves cuddling up on the couch with you and she will keep you warmer than any cozy blanket on a crisp November afternoon. When she has recharged after a good nap, she enjoys long, fast-paced walks, extensive yard explorations, and chasing squirrels. She gets along nicely with most small, easygoing dogs but really isn't too fond of bigger pups who tower over her. Leaf would be happiest in a home without cats. Providing personal space is not always her strong suit as she likes to know what's going on with everyone in the household.

Leaf is very loving, super loyal. and ready to be right by your side while you sip a cup of cider and watch the foliage change colors outside your window. She is the best and most cheerful little companion that anyone could ever ask for and she is more than ready to meet her forever family. Be-Leaf is her motto!

Lovely Leaf joined POMDR from San Jose Animal Care and Services after she was picked up as a stray.
