Golden Buddy is just as his name implies. He is such a love to have as company. He was surrendered to Santa Cruz Animal Shelter when his guardian was incarcerated and he was left with nobody to care for him. We were happy to help Buddy!
Buddy is an amazing dog; being relaxed, lovable, and very easy going. He is great with kids, and any visitors. He sleeps most of the day and is very chill! When he does wake, he will wander outside a bit and want to play very gentle tug o'war. Walks are minimal, he likes them a couple times a week but tires easily, 15-20 min at most. He's happier indoors but will relax outdoors if his people are outside too. He eats well and is overall a happy dog.
Buddy has impaired hearing. He doesn't hear someone enter the room or leave. It is good to approach him gently and pet him so he's aware when you are back or leaving. He hears some sounds but very few. If he's looking at you, he'll follow to go outside or wherever you're going and then settle at your feet.
His hind end is weak from a slowly progressing pelvic limb ataxia. Sometimes he can do a couple stairs, but he needs a single story home. Tile and hardwood floors are quite slippery for him. He will need joint supplements to help his mobility and an understanding and capable person to help him when needed.
Duke is the Bloodhound in the photos and he came to our program with Golden Buddy, but the two dogs did not seem particularly bonded while they were in their foster home. Though they would occasionally lie on a bed or on the couch together, they did not seek out each other's company or seem to experience any distress when separated. Both dogs have been doing well apart but Buddy would love a canine companion in his forever home.
