If there ever was a type of Sugar that is really good for you, it would be this one! Sugar is just as sweet as they come and she absolutely loves to get pets from anybody she meets. She will stay still for as long as a hand is on her. This gorgeous lady is mostly blind but she can perceive some changes in light and dark. She is very smart and can learn the layout of new surroundings very quickly, including navigating going up and down stairs. She enjoys going for walks, is well-behaved on leash, and happily follows her person into the sunset. This girl loves adventures and car rides. When the car windows are cracked open, she will stick her nose up in the air and smell all the sights she can't see.

When meeting other dogs she is interested in giving and getting a good sniff, just to say a quick hello and then move on. Sugar does not initiate play, likely because she can't visually assess the other dogs' intentions, such as a wagging tail or a play bow. She does not appreciate sudden movements, such as a dog jumping on her or getting in her face. She has no known experience with children, but similar to the company of other dogs, she would probably be fine around considerate and calm kids. Based on Sugar's hunting skills for gophers and squirrels, we aren't sure she would do well living with feline housemates.

Sugar is usually very quiet but may get vocal at feeding time. According to her, that bowl usually gets filled way too slowly! She will do a funny Husky roar and then progress to barking depending on elapsed time between the first crunch of the food bag and the filled bowl hitting the floor. Overall, Sugar is an easily adaptable, loving girl who is looking for a mellow and loving home to continue her recovery from living on the streets. This sweet lady clearly had a rough past and she is catching up with putting on some weight. She is diabetic, so she will need an adoptive family that is able to help her navigate her medical needs.

Sugar joins us from Hitchcock Road Animal Services after being found as a stray.
