And the award for most polite and gentle dog goes to -- dramatic pause -- Alfalfa!! This very sweet boy gets along beautifully with dogs and cats, and he absolutely loves people! We assume that he would be fine around mellow children. Although Alfalfa is blind, he will find his way around the house and into your lap with almost no trouble. His current foster affectionately likens Alfalfa to the classic cartoon character Mr. Magoo, who gets into a series of comical situations as a result of his extreme near-sightedness, compounded by his stubborn refusal to admit the problem. Alfalfa enjoys going for easy walks around the block while taking time to smell all there is to smell. He is always up for exploring new things and maintains a positive attitude.
At home, Alfalfa is a huge fan of snuggling on the couch with his people. He will howl the cutest howl whenever he hears a siren. Otherwise, he is very quiet and almost never barks, other than an occasional woof when he needs help, like for getting a lift off the bed. When left home alone, he may initially be a little anxious but will eventually settle in and sleep, although he much prefers to have his people nearby. Alfalfa needs frequent reminders for outdoor potty time, as he may have been an outdoor dog before coming into our program. This sweet boy would do best in a home without stairs.
Alfalfa came to us from Hitchcock Road Animal Services after he was picked up as a stray.
