"Sweet as pie with extra sugar on top" is probably the best way to describe Penelope (aka Nellie). This lady is amazingly affectionate, gentle, and trusting. She definitely likes to be close to her human companions and will follow you around the house, through the yard, and trot along nicely on leashed walks. Nellie is healthy and in great shape, and now that our clinic staff corrected a large hernia, she is more comfortable and can move around with ease.
At her foster home, Nellie is very relaxed and has nicely decompressed. That said, Nellie is not a fan of change and will need a good long while to feel comfortable with new people in a new home. Her initial urge might be to flee and she may dig under fences to get out of the yard. She will need to be closely watched and securely contained during this transition period, but once she feels safe, she turns into the most devoted and loyal lovebug and her drive to escape decreases to zero.
Nellie is a perfect pack dog. The minute she arrived at her foster home, she effortlessly fit right in with their two small dogs and two cats. We don't know how she would be around children, but we assume that she would do well with calm and gentle kids. She is a relaxed passenger on car rides and would much prefer to tag along than being left behind at home. This sweet girl is looking for a loving family where she will be showered with copious amounts of TLC, preferably with another mellow dog or two and/or agreeable cats for company.
Penelope was found as a stray and came to us from Hitchcock Road Animal Services.
